Tips to start underground digging 3D game
We're starting a game project that features a character doing an underground digging. The camera will face a slice of terrain and the character keeps digging the terrain (as illustrated by the sketch attached). I wondered if to model the underground as a terrain and to destory the terrain dynamically (already checked that it's not so straightforward as it sounds). So i'm calling for tips since i'm just treading my first steps on Unity.

Definitely not as easy as it sounds. There are people who've been doing experiments with destructible terrain in Unity by making terrain out of voxels, but it's still difficult.
If it was only seen from the side in 2D, it wouldn't be so bad... not sure if that's an option for you, though.

You might have a look at voxelform. Here's the unity forum article. The website seems to be down / not (yet?) setup, but according to the site it should be available in the assetstore.
I can vouch for Voxelform, very good. I doubt he will be supporting it anymore, but what's in the Asset Store rocks. There are other options in the asset store as well (one is free), and look in the forums for $$anonymous$$ecraft there is a project or two there.
