Dungeon Generation, in the style of SCP Containment Breach
After looking throughout the web for answers/tutorials, I could only find dungeon generation tutorials for dungeons which are completely procedural (see here).
What I want to do is have prefab rooms and corridors, on a grid pattern, attached by doorways on each room piece, i.e similar to how SCP Containment Breach handles it. Are there any tutorials/guides I can look at for this?
You know that each piece is modular, and that they are on a grid of a set size. The cell on a grid contains a modular piece, be it a corridor or otherwise, and then it has 1 - 4 doors connecting with the neighboring cells. What you need to figure out is ..
Will the doors be placed first, followed by fitting modular pieces?
Will you generate a node-graph with connections that you then use to create rooms with doors?
Randomize a cells modular peice until it fits with the neighboring doors?
Actually, the list goes on. You can do what ever it is you wish with the rules you have set out for yourself. Try and sit down and ponder about it for an hour or two, reach a conclusion with your own solution and start working on the implementation =)
Thanks for the ideas, I hadn't heard of node-graphs but that seems useful for what I want to do. I'll look into them!
