Question by Tidal Blast · Aug 23, 2013 at 01:44 AM · animationsreferencequalitymechanim

Questions about character animations, Mechanim, etc.

Hello everyone,

I intend to use Unity to make a competitive multiplayer FPS game, but I'm a bit worried right now about the quality of most animations that I've seen. I'm really not sure if the animations were just average or if that's just a limitation of the Engine, Mechanim, exporter, the animator, etc. If it's a limitation of Unity, then I'll have to deal with it, but I find it strange, because I thought Unity had a really good system for animations.

As references, what games or projects made in Unity do you think had the greatest in-game animations so far?

Is there any limitation that I should be aware of?

And could you quickly describe the best method to export a high quality animation from 3DS max?

Sincerely,

TB

Unity's animation system is just as powerfull as the one in most current-gen games. It's up to scratch.

Where did you see these "average" animations?

Oky thank you for the quick reply. Well, I've seen a lot of games, demos and projects that had pretty average animations, but I won't name any specific title.

However, I just played the Alpha version of a game that an ex-colleague made and the animations look great. So, everything is fine.
