Starter's question on approaching Unity

Hi all,

I love designing games even though my expertise is yet limited. I am a high school student, studying mainly coding and algorithm. I have a little experience with designing simple platformers using Flash. I was introduced to Unity lately. I think it's amazing and really want to dig deep into it.

Right now my main focus is to make 2D platform-puzzle games using Unity, preferably on iOS. However due to my limited time and knowledge I am a bit confused about how to start learning Unity. Should I jump straight into Unity for iOS tutorials (of couse after having gone through all the basic tutorials) or should I stick with the PC first? Another question is that regarding 2D platform games for iOS, is Flash still a good option or I should ditch it and go with Unity all the way?

Sorry for my non perfect English, I hope I have expressed myself clearly. Thank you all!

My suggestion is...

  1. Do the Unity platformer and 2D tutorials first.

  2. Then head over to www.unity3dstudent.com and complete all the mini-scripting tutorial videos over there.

  3. Make one or two simple games for PC, such as 2D pong, then perhaps a 3D pong like table tennis.

  4. iOS license isn't free, and you need a Mac to build Unity games on it, and mobile has its own set of rules you need to follow. So once you have the iOS license go and do as many iOS tutorials as possible.

  5. Start making your own games for iOS

  6. Good luck :)

I see, thank you a lot! One small thing is that I've seen the ability to publish Unity games in FLASH. What exactly is that and how does that work?
