getting error with code from https://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/topics/multiplayer-networking/player-health-single-player

after following tutorial precisely, code spits out errors and doesnt have gameobject field in inspector (for healthbar)

 using UnityEngine.UI;
 using System.Collections;
 
 public class Health : MonoBehaviour {
 
     public const int maxHealth = 100;
     public int currentHealth = maxHealth;
     public RectTransform healthBar;
 
     public void TakeDamage(int amount)
     {
         currentHealth -= amount;
         if (currentHealth &lt;= 0) //&lt gives errors
         {
             currentHealth = 0;
             Debug.Log("Dead!");
         }
 
         healthBar.sizeDelta = new Vector2(currentHealth, healthBar.sizeDelta.y);
     }
 }
