Adding Lightning Effect

Hi Everyone,

I'm doing a game design assignment to edit an Angry Bots level, and to add atmosphere I've put in lightning sound triggers to the outside areas. I would really like to add lightning flashes to these triggers but because all the light is baked into the textures, I'm not sure how I would go about making an effective lightning flash. Does anyone have any tips?

Many Thanks,

Jay

You should try to make a plane with a lightning texture (set the shader to addictive, or try something else). Then make sure that the plane is always facing you (use the "LookAt" code).

  void Update()
     {
         transform.LookAt(player);
     }

Add a point light to the plane so it lights up the scene around the flash. Make a prefab and yourready to instantiate it at the places where you want it to stike! Hope this helps you :D

Thanks for the reply! :) I found that any directional light/point light etc. doesn't light the scene around light because all the textures are lit using baked lightmaps in the textures. Is there any way to trigger the lightmaps to disable for a split second? Because when I disable the light maps the map is much brighter.

If i'm right new lights will light up objects and also the baked scene... Have you tried playing with the intensity or range??
