"Mass place trees" vs -place trees with brush- vs -my own script-
Hi everybody!
The thing is that in order to place trees using Terrain tools, you can only use Capsule Collider. (official source http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Components/terrain-Trees.html , Setting up Tree Collisions secction)
Ok, you are the boss! I thought, and everything was right until I need a weird type of tree, like this one:
There is no way to use a proper capsule collider, but you can add its own mesh as a mesh collider, so if you place only one tree, it will collide properly. But it will not when placed by Mass place trees or using the brush at Terrain tools (as said before).
Ok, no prob! I create my own script to place trees in the terrain...and then, finally, the question: would my own script affect the general performance to much? Just thinking about it, it can not be the same 500 trees with capsule collider than 500 with their own mesh collider, but how bad is this idea?
This question is old and I am wondering what you did. Did you make your own system?
All I would do is manually place the trees that effect gameplay. Basically like you said. I am not a programmer. If I was I would definitely make my own system. Preferably one that I could paint more than one tree type at once.
