Question by CarlB · Jan 23, 2015 at 07:05 PM · connectionassetstore

How do I download Assets outside of Unity?

When I click on the "download to Unity" button for the assets for a free toutorial, Unity says I am not connected. I can only coonnect through VPN and I'm guessing this is the problem. This is a work computer and I have no control over VPN or Firewall settings. How can I download these outside Unity so I can then open them in Unity manually?

I found the bit about creating a BAT file with the following:

set HTTP_PROXY="http://user:password@domain.com:port" set HTTPS_PROXY="http://user:password@domain.com:port" unity.exe

But I'm not sure what to put in there.

When I open a browser, I have to enter a user name, and a password. I connect through VPN and my IP address changes regularlly. It's a set of numbers. If my user name was "FRED", my password was "password", my IP adress was "123.123.123.123" and my port "11111", would I enter? :

set HTTP_PROXY="http://FRED:password@123.123.123.123:11111" set HTTPS_PROXY="http://FRED:password@123.123.123.123:11111"unity.exe

...or is the domain different from the IP address? and if so, is the IP adddress no longer needed?

Also, that would be exposing my password in an unprotected file. Seems like if a password is needed, I should be prompted for it, yes?

I found one of our IT guys who was able to provide me with the proper proxy info. This fixed the problem for 4.6 but when I installed 5.1 everything broke again. Will open new question for that.

Sorry, old question. Are you able to download the assets without downloading them to Unity as a unitypackage file? That should be fine because you can import it later on. If it's a really big deal you should ask a company administrator or someone with access to the VPN/FireWall settings to help you.
