C# how to make Character Motor Jump Infinitely Upward
Hi everyone, I have been trying to change how the C# version of the Character Motor works. I have been trying to make it so the Character Motor jumps infinitely upward without falling. I've tried disabling lines of code, set The MaxFallSpeed to 0 but nothing has worked so far. Is there anything I might need to add to the Character Motor so it has this functionality? I'm completely stumped as to how to get this to work.

That just makes you go upward continuously. I want to make it so you only go up every time you jump.
Answer by SergeantBiscuits · Apr 24, 2013 at 10:07 AM
If I understand correctly you're trying to make infinite "double jumping" in midair. If that's what you want, you just gotta trim up the 'if' statements for the jumping code.
Look at this chunk:
if(grounded)
{
// Jump only ifthe jump button was pressed down in the last 0.2 seconds.
// We use this check instead of checking ifit's pressed down right now
// because players will often try to jump in the exact moment when hitting the ground after a jump
// and ifthey hit the button a fraction of a second too soon and no new jump happens as a consequence,
// it's confusing and it feels like the game is buggy.
if(jumping.enabled && canControl && (Time.time - jumping.lastButtonDownTime < 0.2))
{
grounded = false;
jumping.jumping = true;
jumping.lastStartTime = Time.time;
jumping.lastButtonDownTime = -100;
jumping.holdingJumpButton = true;
The if(grounded) checks to make sure the character is planted on the ground, so remove that. (A good 'debugging trick' is to just comment out the "if(grounded)" and add "if(true)").
Then in that second if statement that begins with if(jumping.enabled &&... just replace all of that stuff with, perhaps, "inputJump".
You gotta strip away all the code that relies on the ground that the character is standing on, though, or you'll get a mess of errors.
Good luck!

Very few people are going to look at 600+ lines of code and also have familiarity with the toolkit you describe. You need to distill things down.
Can you figure out why or where your jumps are losing acceleration? Post that part and you'll get more help.
Good luck!
