Miniature splash screen bug - Android

Hi, I have the following problem: turning off development build to build the final APK, builds an APK with the the unity proprietary splash screen that cannot be deactivated in unity free appearing like a miniature version of the normal one. If building with development build enabled, the unity splash screen shows up fine in the build; it stretches to span the entire screen.

Has anyone encountered this? My studio splash screen shows up fine and all the game runs fine, it's only happening with the unity splash screen... I updated the android SDK to the latest version and am running unity 4.3.4.

The problem is that on the phone you can see the splash edges over the black background which degrades the overall app quality. I could not find any setting to resize the splash screen, as as I'm using unity free, I cannot disable the splash screen.
