How to return a variable outside NotificationCenter

I have this piece of code... and i have a data that came to a NotificationCenter

 function HeatLevelIncrease (note : Notification)
 {        
             var heatLevelIncrease : float = note.data;
                         print(heatLevelIncrease);  // until here is ok
             return heatLevelIncrease;  // but that is the problem
 }
             
 // to use on other functions
         
 function Esfriamento ()
 {
 print (heatLevelIncrease);
 }

How to take out this variable to use in other functions?
