Shape Changing Sprites

I'm working on a top down game where the player casts spells to defeat waves of enemies. Currently, I have a few different spells that the player can select and then cast at a single point, but I'd like to make it so the player can hold down a spells cast button for a few seconds to cast a spell in a line that they draw (e.g. player casts a fire spell, then draws a figure 8 to cast the spell in a figure 8). I'm not sure where to even start with that though. I can use the sprites as colliders once they're created to trigger the spells effects on enemies, but making those sprites seems a bit out of my league at the moment. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
