Should a make a large terrain or should I use several terrains?

Hi!

I'm planning to make a terrain that is 10000x10000 large (ten thousand) I have tried 2 methods: one to make several terrains that is 2000x2000 in size and put them in a 5 by 5 grid and imported *.raw 8-bit heightmaps into each.

The other method is to simply make one terrain 10000x10000 and import just one heightmap. I'm using world machine to make the map. Exporting heightmaps as tiles is a bit painfull work, hence the question: which method is best?

Hey

In my game, I have decided to go with one huge height map, with extreme detail. However, this is not memory efficient at all, so I would recommend multiple terrains.
