How to display a live streaming video in Unity?
I would like to pull a live streaming video feed from a server. Specifically, in fact, I am trying to pull a compressed video feed into Unity which is coming from ROS web_video_server.
Here check it out: http://wiki.ros.org/web_video_server
So far the solutions I have found only seem to work for pulling down videos that are already fully uploaded. I really need a streaming solution. I've tried doing a looping (iterative) image pull, and this works, but the problem is that these images can't be compressed. Hence I'm back in the position of needing to grab compressed video, either in mjpeg or vp8 format.
Can some enlightened soul out there point me in the right direction?
Not a single answer to this question in 2 years? I am looking for the same thing and have not found a solution yet.
To elaborate: Your iterative image pull could be followed by a jpeg decode. It is not as good as strea$$anonymous$$g video formats because it does not take frame difference into account with the compression, but it can save you at least 90% of your datarate.
Was also interested in this question but different in that I want to pull live stream from an IP network camera. I posted a question related to that recently: Would it be possible to write an ONVIF Profile S plugin - Give Unity app ability to control IP network PTZ cameras? (just using this as a selfish bump to get that question perhaps more exposure.. sorry :P )
Np Jason. A live strea$$anonymous$$g video from a webserver is the same thing as a webcam video from an ip. (The webcam hosts a little webserver itself)
