Trouble getting a transparent texture
So I'm having trouble getting a texture to be transparent. I've taken a jpeg into photoshop and edited it to be 80% transparent. I've saved it as both a .png and a .gif, imported it to unity. I've checked "Alpha is Transparent" and tried applying it to a plane. I then tried to apply the texture to a new material, and selected the "Transparent" shader - I'd specify which transparent shader but I've systematically tried all of them.
So how do I get a transparent material? please be both systematic and detailed with your answer, or with whatever answer you direct me to. I've searched around on a lot of different forums without any success, any help would be fantastic.
or transparent, vertexlit. basically any shaders in the transparent family barr the cut-out shaders, which do "black and white" either it's not there or it's solid effects. if the whole texture is uniformly transparent you'd just set the main color to 80% on alpha in Unity, as you don't need the image itself to have alpha (transparent) data, and using an alpha texture is wasteful.
