Question is off-topic or not relevant
Need advice about starting company.
So I'm looking through all the Unity community sections and I'm not really sure where to post this but this seems as good a place as any even if it's not directly related to Unity.
I'm about to take the plunge and official register our Company very soon. I was just hoping some people here might have already done so in the past. Maybe you could give me some advice or thoughts on this process?
So right now it's a very small company, I do all the programming, we have one artist, and one lead music guy. So we are the 3 individuals which will have to be involved with this legally at the minimum.
I'm pretty sure I am going to go with an LLP. My artist suggested an LLC but it seems that LLP are a bit easier to deal with all the official legal business.
Leaning towards doing an LLP with LegalZoom since I don't know any better alternatives.
So does anyone know if this is the correct way to go for a small company? I will most likely be registering the business in Washington State.
Are there any guides of how you set up the financial situation to automatically send money to different accounts based on potential income or would we need to just set up one master account for the whole company and distribute it ourselves?
Would I need signatures or legal documents for the artist and music guy for this or can I somehow do this whole process by myself?
Hopefully someone has already gone through with these processes and can give me some good advice! I really want to get all this stuff rolling but I don't know anything about business or law other than taking Economics 101 in high school haha.
I have an Uncle who is a lawyer who sent me a lot of advice, but he lives in a different state and said that every state is different so if I really wanna do this all at once it'd probably be best to hire a local attorney to take care of all this properly.
I really don't want to deal with hiring a lawyer there's got to be a way to do this correctly without one since so many indie companies have to go through with this right?
Thanks in advance for any help! I've tried to research this online but was hoping maybe someone with experience in the Unity community could point me in the right direction with all this.
I am pretty sure you need legal documents, ask legal zoom, also I would go with the LLC, for reasons of lawsuits, and assets. For being suid for dumb reasons $$anonymous$$G Guy gets mad during game and gets concusion for keyboard hitting his head. Then the assets are safer. Hope that helps. :)
I'm looking to do something similar in the not-too-distant future. Using LegalZoom to form an LLC is my plan. I don't know about bank accounts and stuff.
This is not a technical question related to Unity. Also, I would suggest you never rely on the random words of folks on the internet for legal advice ;) Your local citizen's advice bureau or chamber of commerce can provide more information that will be specific to your particular case.
As you've already noted, laws differ even between U.S. states, so the chances of getting a useful response from somebody in a country halfway around the world is very slim...
