Question by Sylux102 · Jan 04, 2014 at 08:34 PM · asset store

Is there a way to download a .unitypackage from the asset store without having Unity?

This may seem like an odd question at first but it is completely logical let me explain.

My computer (the one with Unity 3D on it) is secluded and does not EVER get connected to the internet. There is a lot of data on it that i dont want to have to wipe if malware gets on it. So I use a second computer on the internet to download things and triple check them for malware before moving them to my main computer.

The problem is there are unity packages i would like to download, but i dont see anywhere and option to download the .unitypackage file from the asset store. Is there any other way to do this? Would copying my Unity installation to a flash drive and downloading them through that work?

No. Packages are stored on cloudfront.net on non-guessable URLs and the server only gives the URLs out to Unity over https.

I can download a package for you if you tell me which.

Thanks Happy$$anonymous$$oo. They are the free packages U$$anonymous$$A Characters and Unity Terrain Assets (the official Unity one). Since they are free assets there should be an option to download the .unitypackage directly.

Have to upgrade to the current 4.3.2 from the 4.3.0 I had, because U$$anonymous$$A needs 4.3.1

If you don't have at least 4.3.1, grab the update as well

You've probably thought of that, but Unity isn't that big, so why don't you install it on the "messenger" pc?
