2017.1.03f and 2017.1.1 project compatability
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knew the answer about compatability between unity versions with game projects. I'm in the unfortunate position that all college computers, which I have to use, use Unity 2017.1.03f, and they won't upgrade before Christmas.
There is a tool I would like to use that requires Unity 2017.1.1.
If I have 2017.1.1 at home, and try and open the project at College in 2017.1.03f, will that work? Does anyone know?
And perhaps someone could explain in more detail how to work out compatibility between Unity versions in future for me and others.
Thanks

I never got a definitive answer to this question, though through much trial and error and Googling, upgrading project versions seems risky.
My opinion now would be that, when starting a new project, choose the latest version of Unity that has the features you want, and if any of them are relatively new features (like the recent Tilemap addition), try those features out early. If you're got a project well into development, I wouldn't change versions ever. It's only ever caused me grief. It apparently is possible to do, but Unity seems to handle upgrading projects badly, especially between the different years.
In regards to trying the new features you want and finding a stable build, I know the tilemap was released in 2017, but 2017.4, 2018.1.1, 2018.1.4 all have a bug where you can't view your tiles in the Tilemap. However, 2018.1.2 seems stable. Trial and error solved this (and a lot of wasted hours).
It's a pity there isn't a better resource where you can look to see which versions of Unity are stable of have bugs, especially since Unity seems more bent on adding new features than releasing stable versions.
