Which of these meshes is more efficient?
I was working on 3D models for bushes and I was wondering of these two models which is more efficient for Unity to load? I plan on using ALOT of variations of this shape so any small difference could potentially effect efficiency greatly in the long run.
They both have 25 vertices, but one is divided up into 4 sided planes and the other 3 sided planes. I guess my question is does unity render 4 sided planes as 3 sided planes twice or is the vertex count the only thing that matters?
The one of the left looks better, so if it doesn't really matter then that's the one I'll go with, but if the one on the left is twice the render speed then I'll go with the one of the right. Thanks in advance.
So just actually counted up the planes and there is no way that the one on the right is more efficient. Still, even though this is kind of a bad example I'd like to know regardless...

The face count in the right shape is 40, in the left one it is 24 but as you already know unity Tranangulate meshes during the importation process the left mesh will triangulate and it will have 40 mashes(8 inner triangles + 16 four-sided faces*2).
So ultimately you can use any one of them both are same.
$$anonymous$$ might want to double check the Optimize Mesh import options. Other than that, maybe turn on Mesh Compression, but it doesn't look like there's all that much to compress to begin with. Maybe if he had used some kind of ico-sphere instead.
