Unity showing "animator" component instead of the "animation" component

Please help me, anyone... I am having an issue, I have downloaded the newest version (4.3.1) of unity, I have been following some tutorials and everything works fine until I get to the animation sections. Instead of getting the "animation" component in the left sidebar, I get the "animator" component. This means I cannot access the same options etc so it wont work. I am wondering if they have removed or changed the animation component in the newer versions of unity? I am new to unity so hopefully its a simple fix, please help me I have looked all over the net without any luck. I know many other people are having the same issue with no solutions...

You should do things in this order:

  1. Create GameObject.

  2. Add desired components to GameObject.

  3. Add animation component to GameObject.

  4. Open Animation window. Window>Animation.

  5. Create new animation clip.

  6. Select animation clip in Animation component.

  7. Edit animation.

If you end up in the animator component, you have to manually remove it from the game object and then go to step 3.
