Emit animated skeletal meshes using particle system
I'm new to Unity and was wondering if there was a way to emit animated skeletal meshes through the particle system. I've tried setting the mesh to use the legacy animation system, and the particle system still emits them without any animation. Is this even possible in Unity?
Well, it doesn't animate because you gave it a $$anonymous$$esh object, not a GameObject with an animation component. I'm not sure you can do what you're wanting. What's the overall goal you are trying to accomplish?
I'm trying to spawn a handful of people walking via a particle system. The same idea should work for a flock of birds flying around and flapping.
You would use the sprite animation functionality for the birds though as you probably wouldn't use 3D meshes for that.
It would be pretty straight forward to create a spawner for the people though (at least a simplistic one). What kind of spawn behavior are you looking for?

I'm actually looking to do something similar: A pod popping with a swarm of creatures running around. It's in the background, so we're looking for something that won't involve a lot of animation team support. If I figure it out I'll post it.
