Making my first game?

I need support making my first game. It's going to be called 'Multi-Zone' and I already have a website set up with It's own domain to splat it on. Firstly, I must annouce that I have not a clue how to script yet nor have I got my head around even the basics of game development. As I voyage along my journey I could use some help from you Unity3D Professionals.

I am already following the 'worm game' series. It's doing brill, but once that is done I wish to move onto more advance game developing.

Here are the few ideas I picture:

-Make a multiplayer game called Multi-Zone -You're a simple block person that is able to create multiple places -You can hang out at other peoples' places and check out offical places

That's a game I one day want to acheive, I also have more detailed ideas than the above.

What do you suggest? What did you do when you first laid your hands on such a game engine. I could use some advice!

In my opinion you idea is great! But as you described your self you are not that talented at scripting (jet). Start of small is a really good advice. Heck I tryed to create HALO as my first ever project(dont ask me how that went). Start out small and go from there(dont do what I did). :)

Heh, you made me laugh with the 'halo game' thing. I guess you were certainly oblivious that you were taking a path of a serious matter. What do you mean? Could I have more details? It'll be cool if there was a scripting dictionary which explains every key word it is.

Well, I always wanted to make a multiplayer game. I love it when a moderator on a game enters the room and every member kisses his shoes. But being an ad$$anonymous$$istrator would be even awesomer! If I could create a great game and it was over-populated with members, then, that'll be terrific. Just to add on, my intention was never to make a sum of income, although now that I understand how making games can create income and that outcome appears when in terms of developing the game, I'll always keep it sorted by balancing it out and keeping the game on It's feet.

A scripting dictionary you say? Hmm here it is: http://unity3d.com/support/documentation/ScriptReference/index.html Type in what you are looking for and you WILL understand ;)

Well, the game sounds great, but it should take a while and will require hard determination. Here are some basic steps that you might want to start out with.

  • Learn JavaScript (I think it is the easiest). You MUST learn some programming. It is necessary!

  • Learn the interface of unity. There are some helpful tutorials at the unity site, here.

  • There are also some game tutorials at the unity site. These can be helpful.

  • Experiment! Use the unity scripting reference, and start writing some scripts. Unity starts out with many standard assets, try making a scene with them.

  • Learn how to use a modeling program. This is a little more advanced, so you won't have to worry about this until you learn some scripting. Blender is easy and free, so you can start out with that.

There are many helpful tutorials out there for Unity3D, just start looking. This a very good question, and deserves a good answer. I hope I have helped you understand.

Blender is easy? Hah joke of the day ;)

The interface for the latest version of Blender is a big improvement to making it easier, I$$anonymous$$O. Also, once you've seen a few introductory videos to Blender (such as the ones found here: http://www.blendercookie.com/getting-started-with-blender/ ) you might not think it's a joke anymore when someone says Blender is easy.

Blender is FREE and has LOADS of free tutorials too. I know many artists who have learned Blender from scratch just by following tutorials. But ofcause not everyone can be a 3D artist. Some are better at math others at music/sound. Find out if you are a 3D artist too or $$anonymous$$m up with one who is.

@OrangeLighting (i'm saying this in a friendly sort of way don't worry) yes blender is hard, but on'ce you get the hang of it it's quite easy. i've heard it before but i'm not up to that bit yet. the only thing i can do is make a maze out of a plane.
