How to pickup and equip an object?

I need a javascript for how to pick up an object by a 1st person controller. when the player looks at the object it says "Press E to equip" and when you press E on the item, it floats on your side but looks like your holding it? Im doing a flashlight in this instance for my horror game? Help, i need a code?
