Question by JonPQ · Mar 29, 2017 at 02:55 PM · androidiosshadersmemory usage

Can Standard Shader be removed from a build?

We are using lots of custom shaders in our game, Standard shader isn't used on any 3d objects, we are also using Image component (which shows as either no material, or 'Default Sprite Material' We are also using particles.

but in the profiler it says Standard shader is using 6.5mb of memory. which we'd like to kill. In Profiler it only has 1 reference to (ShaderVariantCollection) HideAndDon'tSave, Manager or AssetBundle() What is this reference, and can we get rid of it? or is Standard shader required even if its not used on any materials.

We are optimizing Ram on mobile, and would like to remove this if possible. Cheers in advance !

ok.. there was indeed one more ref. and after removing it.... the Shader memory dropped from 13mb down to 2mb. no sign of standard shader anymore in profiler. score !
