As far as the console part, no. You must have a Pro license of Unity and be an authorized developer for that particular console, which is NO where near free. Even with Unity 3 Pro, you need the licensing.

-Anyone correct me if any of my information is in error.

As far as the second question, I think Unity v 3 will also be free. Looking at the beta though (haven't checked it thoroughly since I'm new to 2.6 as well) doesn't seem to be a whole lot of new stuff (maybe just a bunch of bug fixes).

Can anyone add to this? As far as new features of v3.0b5 vs v2.6?

Unity 3 have A LOT of new features and improvements: integrated lightmapper (Beast engine), object occlusion (Umbra engine), cloth simulation, soft bodies... just to mention some of them. Check out the videos at the blog: http://blogs.unity3d.com

Licensing costs according to Unity sales as of yesterday:

Hi there,

Thanks for the email. :)

XBox and PS3 pricing is set at $80K per XBox or PS3 title, and $40K per XBLA or PSN title. > Unity XBox should become available in late 2010 and PS3 early next year.

Cheers,

Uh, basically, yeah. Unless you have a publisher, an outstanding game, and a nice budget, you may want to remain indie.

If you have a finished game, finding a publisher shouldn't be difficult but the XBLA is definitely NOT S$$anonymous$$m or the AppStore.
