Collision Detection between certain objects

I'm having a problem where I shoot the bullet and the bullet can collide and bounce of the walls. But when the player jumps foward while shooting, the bullet will bounce of him and send the player flying across the map. How do I make it so there is no collision detection between the bullet and the player.

Unity has recently implemented Layer Based Collisions Which may be an easy way to solve this problem.

Placing the bullets and the Player in unique layers will allow you to disable their collisions with each other.
