I want to make an online multiplayer game -- what is the best server option?

As the title says, I want to make a multiplayer game. It will be designed to get feedback from the server every 1-4 seconds (it doesn't need real-time interaction). Is Amazon or one of its hosting service competitors a good option for online multiplayer hosting or do I need to look into getting my own server(s)? Please be specific and provide reasoning for what you think would be the best option. Thank you!
