Loading your game with specific settings
Hey I trying to get my game to have the option of using Anti Aliasing or not. To do that I have stored my settings in a suitable format in local document.
The problem I have now is I would like to tell unity to use the Quality settings in this file before the game loads.
Can anyone help me out with that? Thanks
Why can't you just use the built-in 'QualitySettings' class for this? Isn't it already one of the options you have there?
Really tired of the "Why cant you do X" 'answers'...
It's really not helpful at all
I'm sorry for sounding condescending, but you'll have to forgive me for suggesting an alternate approach. It is very common for people to come here asking about needlessly roundabout ways of doing things, who have not even thought of more consise, elegant and straightforward solutions. I will assume you have a very good reason for doing things in this way from now on. Also, this is why I posted it as a 'comment', not an 'answer'.
The basic problem here is that you need Unity do do something before it loads your code (since everything you make is essentially configuration data for the engine). I assume you already have the File IO stuff sorted out? As far as I can tell, the only way to make this work is to load a very small, empty scene as the 'initial' level, which loads the external data you need before bootstrapping the rest of the application.
Thanks.
You see this won't work either because the GLContext will already be created. This needs to happen before any Context is created at all. Just like on the PC version you have a launcher that lets you pick what settings you'd like. I'd need to access this configuration file.
(I'm running on android I guess I forgot to mention that)
So the real question here is 'How do I tell Unity to create its GLContext with custom options?'. I'm pretty sure you can't do that, but to be fair I've never had reason to try...
