Renaming the *_Data folder

Hey, does anybody knows if or how to change the data folder? For example if you build your game as "MyGame.exe" there will be a folder called "MyGame_Data", but I want to rename it to... lets say "Data".

Hey $$anonymous$$alekip,

Welcome to unity!

Just right - click on the folder called "$$anonymous$$yGame_Data" to "Data_Data", the "_Data" is an extension.

You can hide that, and it will look like its called "Data".

Cheers!

Are you sure? Because it says "Error" "There should be '$$anonymous$$yGame_Data' folder next to the executable"

Editing it manually outside Unity doesn't work.

Well blow me, is that a pc thing?

I just did It fine on my mac..

Well if you can't do that on a pc, then does "$$anonymous$$yGame_Data" have a nice new ring to it?

Why do you want to change the name of it?

The problem could be pc's path system (everything has to be named correctly).

(off-topic: $$anonymous$$ac = PC = Personal Computer)

I was thinking about it when I read "_Data is an extension." But on Windows extensions begin with a dot (.). How ever, isn't there an option inside Unity?

You won't find the option inside unity, nothing you can tick anyway.

To change that you would have to go into the unity code and change the "Find("$$anonymous$$yGame_Data")" to "Find("Data")" as well as changing the name of the folder to "Data".

Cheers!

You can actually rename the data folder (e.g. "MyGame_Data") to "DATA".

Other names don't seem to be possible though, but this will do, for instance if you need to rename your .exe because you've misspelled a client's name in the executable file :-). Not that this ever happened to me... Sometimes rebuilding can take simply too much time (like when you need to switch to a different platform).

You can't rename it...Unity needs it to be named like that in order to find the data. (Unless you feel like hacking the executable with a hex editor, maybe.)

I actually tried finding the relevant part to be changed with a hex editor and didn't find it. There doesn't seem to be any readable text referencing the name of the data folder (or part of it).

I also tried the strings command in the OS X Ter$$anonymous$$al to see if the string could be found somewhere in the executable, but this also didn't lead to any concrete results.
