My animation is not importing into Unity.

I have a simple animation for a simple object that I made in Maya. The object just jitters from side to side. The idea is that the animation is supposed to play when the object is hit with another object. I got the right code and everything it's just my animation is not playing. I moved the Maya file over into my assets folder, I can preview the animation in the bottom corner it's just the animation itself wont play when I play the game. I tried testing it out in a new project with no code applied to it, just to see it the animation would play when I played the game. It's not working. Can anyone tell me why the animation isn't playing at all?
