Reimporting assets takes a long time and doesn't show loading screen
I received an error two days ago that there was an inconsistency in my asset database and was prompted to reimport the entire project. I clicked on it and the Unity tab disappeared, it's not showing up in the taskbar and there's no window displaying a loading screen or anything. The only way I know the process is running is if I check the task manager, I can see Unity is using a lot of CPU and memory. Also if I try to open the project in a different instance of Unity, it says it's already open in another instance. I decided to let it run and it's been running for roughly 40 hours now. My project is 17GB with the asset folder making up just 2GB of that.
I googled it and supposedly it's normal for full reimports to take a long time, but at this point I'm getting worried, especially because I have no loading screen to indicate that it's not stuck and how much longer it'll take. I'm afraid to stop it because I don't know how else to fix this asset database inconsistency other than reverting to an older version and redoing a bit of work, and if I stop it and then decide there is no better solution than the reimport, I'll have to repeat these 40 hours again.
EDIT: Nevermind, I resolved the issue by going back to an older vrsion and redoing the changes I made since then.
