Question by jtf1974 · Mar 08, 2014 at 08:17 PM ·

Why do edges get darker when moving further away?

I'm using Pro. The edges of objects show a thick dark line when camera is far away and it disappears when I move closer. I'm using hi-res baked textures from 3DMAX. The object looks perfect up close. I have increased shadow distance so that's not the problem and I've only got one directional light in the scene.

I was having a similar problem and it turned out that it was a uv mapping issue. Do you have a good amount of bleed on your texture? After giving myself at least 4 pixels of bleed, I managed to resolve the issue.

If you mean the UV map from $$anonymous$$ax even with bleed over it keeps doing it. It's something in Unity that accentuates the polygon edges at a distance. No matter what texture I use it does this.

Actually now I look at it again with another texture this doesn't happen. How do I add bleed to the UV in Unity?

@jtf1974 Bleeding is part of the texture, not the uv-map. Unity is neither a texture editor not a uv-map editor. You need to edit your textures outside of Unity.

Yes, you said that you modelled this in 3D$$anonymous$$ax, you would have to first add to the texture in photoshop, or whatever you use and then in 3D$$anonymous$$ax, map your uvs allowing for a good buffer zone (bleed) and then re import it. Sorry for being vague with my original comment
