Xamarin, MonoDevelop 4 or current unity mono?
Hi I would like to know if somebody has used in osx another IDE besides the one that comes with unity.
I'm not asking how to do it but if you have experience with any of these. I can still debug? I can still synchronize my files?
Or my best bet is to keep using the current mono?
I'm using the monodevelop that comes with 4.2.1 in my osx but it freezes a lot or hangs out. If I do a "rename" mono takes a lot of time and the CPU just spikes up for whatever reason.
Do you have experience using others IDE for unity? MonoDevelop 4 seems nice. My only requirements are debugging and stability.
Thanks.

Hi, I can't tell You whats about MonoDevelop (cuz I'm on Windows), but I can tell that Visual Studio from microsoft works fine with Unity, everrything working fine so I think that other IDEs (of course if they're not %@#%) will work fine with Unity.
hope that helps you somehow
Paul
I use mac, but I still use windows with the virtual machine, and I like a lot Visual Studio. Since in mac I have a lot (a mean a lot) of issues, I'm seriously thinking about installing windows in my mac. But first one question, you can debug, and compile and do everything you want with visual studio? Is there anything that mono does that visual studio doesn't or is just best to use visual studio?
Hi, You can do everything with Visual Studio just like in $$anonymous$$ono but in VS You get a lot of features (IntelliSense, better compatibility with Unity and many things that not related with Unity (WPF for ex.) for ex.). So, You can use $$anonymous$$ono but I personally recommend you VS.
Hope that helps You,
Paul
Just as a note there are no debugging hooks between Visual Studio and Unity. As a result you lose the ability to do things like breakpoints in your code that react to the Unity project running. There are plug-ins for Visual Studio that add such functionality, but all of them that I am aware of are paid/premium extensions.
I know that an updated version of $$anonymous$$ono will be included with Unity 4.3 which fixes a lot of issues, but there is no confirmed release date yet.
I understand. Thanks. Please, If some god of Unity is looking at this humble comment. Please send more monkeys to the osx-mono department please!
