Error In Decompressing Unity Asset Store Package
I was trying to import a 3rd person shooter package from the asset store, but when it didn't show any progress with the progress bar after a while, it vanished and I saw a console error message that said something like this:
"Error while importing package: Couldn't decompress package"
Every time I try to import again (I've tried twice so far), It does that same dang thing.
A little Help please?
Recommend getting in touch with whoever published the package, and possibly with the official support $$anonymous$$m.
Other things you might check:
Is the package compatible with your installed Unity version?
Is the package particularly large? Could your computer be running out of memory?
Is the package download corrupt? Have you tried getting a second copy?
Try deleting it from your Asset Store cache before re-downloading it. Is it trying to decompress to a protected area?
Locations:
osx: ~/Library/Unity/Asset\ Store/
win7/8: C:\Users\YOURLOGINNA$$anonymous$$E\AppData\Roa$$anonymous$$g\Unity\Asset Store
I have such problem with this one, pretty popular, why? http://whydoidoit.com/unityserializer/downloads/
PLEASE RE$$anonymous$$OVE THIS LIN$$anonymous$$ it goes to a VIRUS website
I've had this happen to me when running out of hard drive space on my SSD. You can try freeing up some space and try again.

Check and see if 7z is in your libraries folder.
Look at the folder that you have unity installed in and it should have folders like assets, library, your project and some other folders. Click on library and if you don't see 7z, you may have to download it again.
after downloading this package is not .7z, it is .unitypackage. Should I zip it?

When it happened to me it'd just not downloaded correctly. Here's what to do if it's the same problem:
Go to the asset store. At the top bar you'll see a download icon between the house and shoping cart icons, that's the "Toggle Download Manager" button. Hit it and it'll get you a list of the things you've tried to or already downloaded. hit "Download" on your asset (or deleate it if it's already marked as downloaded) and then when it shows a green bar with 100% on it it should let you import.
