synch to vbl of 3dtv with laptop

I need to run a 3d application that uses synch to vbl with a 3dtv. My laptop cannot synch to the 3dtv because it always boots up on it's default monitor. Is there a way to force a macbook pro laptop to boot from an external monitor?
