Scripts recompiling when switching from monodevelop to editor

Hi all,

Ever since I installed Unity 4, I've noticed that my scripts recompile whenever I switch between MonoDevelop and the Unity Editor. Because my projects contains a lot of scripts, this takes a long time and reduces my productivity. Is there a way we can get the Editor to recompile only when it is absolutely necessary (full project build, or when I hit the Play button)?

Sounds like a very annoying problem. I am not using Unity 4 yet because I see too many issues with it, but I am curious about the cause for this issue. Do you know if anyone else has experienced the same? Is it happening in all your projects, or only a specific, potentially corrupted one?

I think even in Unity 3 this happens automatically, but in Unity 4 is takes a lot longer. Perhaps it's simply more resource hungry? So far I've tested on only the project I am currently working on. I also switch from $$anonymous$$ac to Windows to work on the same project, but in $$anonymous$$ac, while I've also noticed some slow-down, it's not as much as the Windows version of Unity. Some imported Asset scripts are also giving strange error messages. I am cleaning the project of those to see if it helps. In the meantime, if anyone knows a way to disable this behavior, it is much appreciated.

I believe what you want is in Preferences, called Auto Refresh. Note that this is for ALL Assets, not just scripts, but it does seem to do what you want.

Cheers
