Messaging System Tutorial? (JavaScript)

I happened to come across this eye-opening four piece article, and now I absolutely must find a way to do it in Unity. Unity already has the whole component thing built in, so all I need to do is make my own messaging system or figure out how to use the built in one.

I did some searching and found this tutorial. However I didn't realize it was massively outdated until I had read the whole thing and discovered that the example project was filled with errors.

TL;DR -

Could someone explain how to use Unity's Messaging system to get the same results as in the first link? -OR- Could someone explain how I would go about making my own messaging system?

I doubt it's going to happen but an example project would be SUPER USEFUL.

Oh also, I would prefer if it was in JavaScript. However I realize it may not be possible in JS, so then C# will have to do.

Thanks in advance! :D

I asked a similar question a while ago, the best response was in the Forums. Perhaps there is some useful information there.
