maya animation not importing correctly

Hello again;

 I made a character and exported it as an fbx with animations baked in the fbx settings. The animation works in the project view, yet it will not animate in the game. When I move the object to the hierarchy tab, the animation won't even carry over, it just has an animation controller with no animations attached, when I try to attach an animation via add component, it says no default animation was found. Any help would be appreciated thanks in advance
