Which version of the FBX SDK is used?
Hi,
I suppose that Unity is using Autodesk FBX SDK to import FBX models. However I didn't see any of the FBX SDK dlls in the files installed by Unity, so maybe it's because the libs are statically linked.
If my assumption is correct, I was wondering which version of the FBX SDK is used in the last Unity release. Indeed we are using this SDK to export geometry from our software and I'd like to check the compatibility with Unity.
Thanks in advance
Sorry, I don't know the answer, but in my experience - if you use the latest FBX plugins from autodesk when you export from your 3D package - it will work without a hitch. (I've used lightwave, maya and 3ds$$anonymous$$ax in different projects) If by SD$$anonymous$$ you mean you install the plugins that Autodesk releases for the software suits - then you should not have any issues.
If you want to make sure - just get the free version of Unity (that comes with 30 days pro) and run some tests. The limitations of Unity Pro have nothing to do with importing assets, so you will have the same results.

IIRC:
- Unity 2.6 is based on FBX SDK 2010.2;
- Unity 3.0, 3.1 is based on FBX SDK 2011.2;
- Unity 3.2, 3.3 and upcoming 3.4 is based on FBX SDK 2011.3.1.
Just out of curiosity: can you tell me which software is that?
Sure, it is rban PAD, a procedural city creation tool. We were featuring Collada export, but we have recently added FBX import/export support (at some point with Unity users in $$anonymous$$d :-))

Nice! Please don't forget to fill GetSceneInfo (mAuthor, LastSaved_ApplicationName, LastSaved_ApplicationVersion, ...) in the FBX files. Thanks!
