All 3D applications must have to be similar in this types of issues. I am a developer and familiar with 3ds max. so when you set a material in your 3d application and give a color, and export for example (.fbx), the materials and colors will be imported with you fbx, while you have to import your textures separatly and simply drag and assign your textures to their proper materials. From a previous experience, use a meaningful naming convension, like I name my material for example "villaRoofBrick_mat" and name its according texture "villaRoofBrick_tex"..
Sculptris uses .sc1 & .obj I already tried saving it as .fbx but didn't work. so whenever I import my model to unity it loses all the applied material & returns to default grey
