Is there a LOD technique that changes resolution/quality of textures?
The scenes in my project are full of 2D billboard planes with fairly high resolution artwork. Of course, I am having the familiar problem of the scenes being slow to load and a bit sluggish, so I want to explore LOD options - but geometry is not the problem - just texture quality/resolution!
Does anyone know of a solution to load textures in at low quality, then increase quality using LOD or something similar?

i think your talking about Mip-mapping which is a technique which loads a lower resolution version of the texture. Unity does this automatically on normal texture settings so it should lower the resolution automatically
