Try changing your shader type to Unlit/Transparent. (This assumes the "white" area of your image is actually transparent, not white.)
I tried it, but it didn't work. Is it possible that the white is part of the picture?
Yes, it's possible. Easiest way to find out: post the actual bird image. I'll let you know.
Yep, that bird has a white background.
Edit: I somehow lost the ability to upload images, and the image I originally uploaded is not loading either. Very odd.
All I see are the words "alt text" I think that the picture was uploaded wrong.
