Question by Steve_6 · Mar 16, 2011 at 10:41 PM · licensefree

Simple Unity3D FREE License Questions

I'm using Unity3D for the first time and trying to learn it (also bought the book Game Development With Unity -- seems good so far).

I downloaded the FREE Unity version 3.3.0f4.

  • Does this version expire in 30 days, or does it expire at all?

  • Once I learn the software, and I've got a product that I wish to publish for compensation (CD-ROM and Web deployment only), is it the Unity Pro version that I must buy, or another edition?

Thank you.

I found it hard to believe this wouldn't be easy information to find. It was not. I could not live with myself if I didn't vote this down, I'm sorry. It's just too much of a disrespect to the people who made that good information so easy to find, that you come here and type all that.

Calm down Jessy. There are no bad questions :) (Well, there are, but... I hardly consider this one bad)

Jesse, sorry to have ruined your day. At least I was polite with my question, which I can't say about you or your response. I bet you tone-down your attitude when you're not hiding behind a screenname. Real cowardly of you. The installer does make mention of a 30-day period, so my question was valid.

The free version doesn't expire. If you used pro trial, then pro trial will expire after 30 days and set you back to the free version. No worries there.

You can publish your game on the web or cd without pro. Free is fine.

Yes this has been a little confusing since the installer does say it is for 30 days on the free version, that leads one to believe it will expire in 30 days, and it requires immediate registration to be activated so it can be used.
