Why do my rope behave strange? Stretching rope problem.
Hi!
First of, i know there are like a 124151412412 questions about rope, this question is not one that has been asked before.
Second of all, a little background about the game setting. It is a 3D-platformer. What this means is basicly that you are playing the game like it is a 2D game (You only move in Y and X, while Z is locked), but the game is made with 3D-models. With this said, i want my character to grab a rope and start swinging, and then jump of that rope.
So what is the problem? Well i can't find anywhere how to hold the rope together. In my setup i have a cube (as a player) which has a little cylinder on its top. This cylinder is a kinematic body with a character Joint attatched, this is the joint i want to attach to the end of the rope. As my rope i have a long cylinder with a character joint attatched to it. At the end of the "rope cylinder" i have its joint connected to my fixed joint.
But what happens when my player is connected to the "rope cylinder"? Well, it is like the joint is beeing stretched. It doesnt break (my break limit is infinite).
How can i make my joints not stretching?
Please feel free to ask me about other settings if i have missed to give vital information :)
that perspective is typically called 2.5D, which can be 3D in 2D env or 2D in 3D env, but I digress. SO, you might want to check out Unity's hinge joints, or joint components overall, they can be complex, so look at them carefully and go to Unity students for a tutorial on joints.
