Exporting gmod model into Unity?
Hello, I am currently making a Slender app for Android at the moment. Before you get on my case about making another Slender rip-off, that's the thing. ALL ANDROID SLENDER APPS SUCK!!! Only Slender!: Chapter 1 - Alone is decent.
I am currently getting LOTS of help from alucardj's Slender guide and answers from my questions as well. I also have gotten permission from Mark Hadley (AgentParsec) to use his Slender games soundtrack and sound effects, so I am already excited to make this app the closest experience of Slender from PC that you will get on mobile.
I have ran into a big problem, finding a good Slender Man model. The only one I have found that looks, in my opinion, outstanding. Only problem is, it's for garry's mod.
Here is the link for the model: http://www.garrysmod.org/downloads/?a=view&id=132593
My question is basically what the title says. Is there any way that you can export the model from garry's mod into Unity? Or maybe exporting the model from gmod into another 3D program like 3DS Max? If any of these are possible, please help out and explain how I can get pass this problem.
The sheer confusion that whirls through my $$anonymous$$d at the slightest mention of Slender's popularity would destroy a lesser man's soul.
Unity can take any common object format. Get it from whatever it's in to FBX, OBJ, 3DS, whatever. Use google.
Sir, I thank you for answering, but I wouldn't be posting up a question in Unity itself, also knowing the fact that even slightly mentioning Slender $$anonymous$$an in these forums will give you the boot, and not have used Google already.
I have searched up "Slender man model for Unity", Slender man 3d model download", "slender man 3ds", and almost many other ways to search it up, and I even used Google Images, I can not find a decent model.
So if anyone would be so kind as to NOT give me a half-ass answer because I brought up Slender $$anonymous$$an, that would be great. I want to eli$$anonymous$$ate the terrible rip-offs on the Android Store and make a good one. This question is about EXPORTING $$anonymous$$O$$anonymous$$S INTO OTHER 3D PROGRA$$anonymous$$S, not TEACH $$anonymous$$E HOW TO $$anonymous$$A$$anonymous$$E A SLENDER GA$$anonymous$$E.
That's why i also provided an answer :P
What format is it in? Type that into google, then type 'convert', then type 'fbx', 'obj, '3ds', or whatever. I don't know what format gmod uses for its models, but since you can get models into it i'm reasonably sure you can also get them out.
Pretty quick 'mdl to fbx' search returned this, but so many people ask basic questions about garry's mod it's nearly impossible for me to verify that it's actually using mdl format.
That's the thing, the model isn't in one compact file like 3ds, or fbx. It's got folders withing folders, with materials for each limb for Slender $$anonymous$$an. It automatically creates the model for me in gmod when I spawn him. I want to keep him in one piece like that and try to find a way to convert him into a 3ds, fbx, or obj file.
Vtf is texture, Vmt is material, mdl is model. There are lots of vtfs and vmts in that package, but only one mdl. That's the model. The vvd file may be related. It stores vertex information or something. "Nem's Tools" seems to have some know-how in how to go from $$anonymous$$DL to OBJ. (http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?c=173&o=30)
You'll have to convert the vtfs to a unity-readable format as well. VTFEdit sounds like the right thing. V$$anonymous$$T is just a text document and can be ignored.
You'll probably have to reassign textures in Unity itself.
I used google. :p
