I want to develop a game for iphone. I have Maya 2008 on pc. After reading some forum posts it appears that I need to install Unity on the same machine as Maya. Is this true? If so can I develop the game on pc, then somehow move the project to mac for publishing?

You only need maya on the same machine if you want to be able to import maya model files straight into Unity. You can alternatively just export your models as fbx, and you can have maya on whatever computer you like
