How do I use an XB1 controller in unity running on a mac

I have and xb1 controller and a data transfer cable that should work for my comp. But so far I have tried just plugging the controller into the computer and seeing what happens but no luck. To be honest I am not even sure if you can get it to work within unity inside a mac. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
