Upload Scene to Server?

I have created a level editor/creator and wish to be able to have people share their creations. I would love to be able to just export the edited scene and it upload to my server, but I know it won't be that easy. What would be the easiest way to approach this? I could make a script that exports the position of all of the objects and makes a file based on that, and when loaded, it instantiates all the objects to those positions? I'm open to any suggestions!

You could try my Unity Serializer which would handle the storage of positions and the instantiation of prefabs - plus you'd get a save game feature for your project.

I'll try that out, it looks promising. I can come up with the upload/download scripts, just I'm at a loss at how to make it a savable format. But this looks good, I'll download it and give it a go!

Great - you are going to want to work with the LevelSerializer.SerializeLevel and LevelSerializer.LoadSavedLevel routines that let you have a string you can put where you like.

Saving stuff is not easy - especially if your level editor ends up setting properties of custom classes etc rather than just placing things. US should do the heavy lifting in that case.

As of now, my level editor only places objects that you can resize and rotate, so it isn't extremely in depth. I don't plan on making it much more in depth than it is right now, but maybe a little bit. I downloaded the serializer and it looks like it will likely do what I'm looking for. I'm going to implement it now and see how it handles it. If you wanna take a look at my editor, its at: http://www.coreymccown.com/Unity/BallGame/2/WebPlayer.html - thanks for all the help and for the awesome tool!

whydoidoit's serializer works excellently for this.
