Question by Geo.Ego · Feb 20, 2013 at 11:08 PM · c#camera

Camera follow object after certain point

I'm currently using the Smooth Follow script (which I converted to C#) to have my camera follow a platform that the player controls as it moves up and down the level.

What I would like to do is have the camera start so that the platform is at the very bottom of the screen, and once it gets about 1/3 of the way up the screen, the camera will follow it up. When it comes back down to that point, I would like the camera to again stop following so that the platform can go back to the bottom of the screen. I have tried setting a flag so that the script doesn't start working until the platform reaches the point that I want to, but then it jumps to the new position instead of just starting to smoothly follow the platform. I'd much appreciate any suggestions.

Without the code, it is difficult to say, but ins$$anonymous$$d of a flag, why don't you just check and limit the 'Y' position so that it cannot fall below a certain level but allow the X,Z positions to update.

@Robertbu, you called it. I clamped the Y position between a floor and ceiling value in Update () and it works great. I'm going to add your comment as an answer because I can't convert yours to an answer at my karma level, but feel free to add it as an answer and I'll accept that one. Thanks!

As robertbu pointed out, the simplest solution was to limit the Y position of the camera.
