Are there plans for a future unity3d release that will install on Linux?
I run a Windows 8 laptop, and an Ubuntu 12.10 Desktop box and wanted to know if there are plans for a Unity3d release for Linux so I can start runnning Unity and editting my programs on my stronger device.

No. There are no stated plans to support the Unity editor to Linux.

i think its about time you guys get the linux editor up and running before someone beats you to it and monopolizes that market. i will port the code for a free pro lisence for life including all devices, and 60k USD :)

Yes, Unity 4 has a publishing option for Linux, if that is what you mean. For more information, take a look at these pages : http://blogs.unity3d.com/2012/11/22/linux-publishing-in-unity-4-0/ and http://blogs.unity3d.com/2012/07/03/linux-publishing-preview-what-how-and-wherefore-3/

I noticed that aspect of Unity 4, but I guess I mean an installation of the software for Linux, so that you can create and edit new projects on a Linux desktop. I only see Windows and $$anonymous$$ac installers for the Unity3d software.
